Not all SUVs are created equal. Some are so out there, they make you question the sanity of their creators. Maybe their intentions were good, but you know what they say about good intentions…

Here are 15 SUVs that definitely left an impression, for better or worse.

Nissan Juke

The Nissan Juke was a design disaster, with its bug-eyed look and confusing lines. It tried to be funky and ended up being just plain weird. It’s a reminder that not all experiments in car design are successful. The Juke was a “bold” move by Nissan, but it’s one that definitely didn’t pay off. It’s a car that will be remembered more for its strange look than anything else.

Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet

Nissan’s Murano CrossCabriolet was a bizarre experiment in automotive design. A convertible SUV might sound cool on paper, but in reality, it was a confused mess. It handled like a boat and looked like a squashed frog, leading to its inevitable demise in 2014. This car represented a strange period in Nissan’s history, where it seems they were throwing ideas at the wall to see what stuck. Unfortunately, this one slid right off.

Lamborghini LM002

The Lamborghini LM002, or “Rambo Lambo,” was an oddball in the luxury car world. Its angular design was more brutish than beautiful, and it lacked the elegance typical of Lamborghini. It’s like a muscle-bound bodybuilder in a tuxedo – out of place and awkward. The LM002 was a bizarre departure from Lamborghini’s usual sleek and sexy designs, and it’s a prime example of how even the most prestigious car manufacturers can have a misstep.

The Sbarro 4×4+2 is a six-wheeled mystery machine. Based on a Porsche Cayenne, it was transformed into something that looks like it escaped from a mad scientist’s lab. The extra wheels don’t even touch the ground, making you wonder what the point was. It’s a weird SUV, one that leaves more questions than answers.

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Boot

The SCG Boot is an over-the-top off-roader that’s as strange as it is powerful. With a 650 horsepower engine and extreme off-road capabilities, it’s like a monster truck for the desert. It’s cool in a way, but also totally impractical for anything other than dune bashing. It’s a niche vehicle for a niche audience, and while it’s impressive in its own right, it’s hard to see the point for the average driver.

Jeep Treo

The Jeep Treo concept promised a future of small, efficient SUVs, but it ended up being a futuristic flop. Its design was too weird, and the market wasn’t ready for such a radical change. Personally, it kind of makes me think of a cartoon car. My toddler would probably like it, but most drivers? Probably not.

Isuzu VehiCross

The Isuzu VehiCross might have been capable off-road, but its design was a head-scratcher. It looked like it was put together by a committee that couldn’t agree on anything. Its heavy weight and strange features made it more of a curiosity than a mainstream hit. The VehiCross is a perfect example of how trying to be different for the sake of being different isn’t always a good strategy.

Suzuki X-90

The Suzuki X-90 was a misguided attempt to blend a convertible with an SUV. It ended up being good at neither, offering a rough ride and limited off-road capabilities. It was overpriced, underwhelming, and quickly disappeared from the market. The X-90 is a classic case of a car trying to be too many things at once and failing at all of them. It’s a lesson in automotive design: sometimes, less is more.

BMW X5 Le Mans

The BMW X5 Le Mans could have been a game-changer with its McLaren F1 engine, but it ended up being a one-off wonder. It’s a shame that such potential was never fully realized in a production model. It’s like finding out about a great movie that was never made. The X5 Le Mans had the makings of a legend, but instead, it’s been mostly forgotten.

Honda Element

The Honda Element was like a rolling bread box with its square design and limited appeal. It was practical in some ways but failed to win over a broad audience. It’s a classic case of function over form, but without much of either. The Element tried to be different, but in the end, it was just awkward and unattractive. It’s a reminder that not every attempt at being unique is going to be a hit.

Toyota Land Speed Cruiser

The Toyota Land Speed Cruiser, a freak of nature with its 2,000 horsepower engine, is like a rocket on wheels. In 2016, Toyota took the reliable but sluggish Land Cruiser and turned it into this absurd speed demon. It’s impressive but also raises the question, why? You’d never need this kind of power on regular roads, making it a wild but impractical creation. It’s a case of engineering muscle flexing rather than practicality.
